The WordPress site is gone. Completely gone. Deleted. Removed. Sent to whatever digital retirement home exists for abandoned plugins and themes. After years of updates, maintenance, security alerts, dashboard notifications, and endless tweaking, I finally decided I'd had enough.
What started as a simple website somehow turned into a part-time IT department. Every login felt like a new assignment. Update this. Fix that. Renew something. Troubleshoot something else. At some point I realized I was spending more time maintaining the website than actually writing on it.
So I pulled the plug and moved everything to Neocities.
The change has been surprisingly refreshing. Instead of digging through menus and plugins, I'm back to writing plain HTML and CSS. Open a text editor, write some code, save the file, upload it, and move on with life. It's the same process that built most of the internet I grew up with, and honestly it still works just fine.
There is something satisfying about knowing exactly how every page works because I wrote every line myself. No mystery code. No bloated frameworks. No plugin conflicts. If something breaks, I know where to look because the entire site fits inside my own head.
Maybe it's nostalgia. Maybe it's stubborn Gen X behavior. Maybe I'm just old enough to remember when personal websites were actually personal. Either way, building with simple code has made this hobby fun again.
The site loads faster, feels lighter, and reminds me why I started making websites in the first place. The modern web can keep its complexity. I'll be over here hand-coding pages like it's 1998 and enjoying every minute of it.
